The Books

Susannah McFarlane is the award-winning author, creator and publisher of some of Australia’s most successful children’s books and series. With over one million books sold in Australia alone, Susannah is well known for writing books kids love and parents can trust. Her books and series are fun and engaging and she has written for children of all ages from birth to grown-ups, with a special focus on early and beginner readers.

She is the creator and writer of the awarding-winning EJ12 Girl Hero and EJ Spy School series (Scholastic), the creator and co-author of the popular series for boys, Boy vs Beast (Scholastic) and D-Bot Squad (Allen & Unwin), and the author of the Little Mates series of alphabet books for under fives (Scholastic).

She is also the author of picture books Grumble Boats (Affirm Press), which was awarded a CBC Honour Book award in 2022, Fairytales for Feisty Girls and Bold Tales for Brave-hearted Boys (Allen & Unwin), and The Who, What, Why, How of Christmas and Who, What, Why, How of Easter (Bible Society Australia).

Her adult memoir, Heartlines: The Year I Met My Other Mother (Penguin Random House), was released in 2015 and was written in partnership with her birth mother Robin Leuba.
